A very very brief history of Engineering…
The biggest challenge that they faced was to inspire, recruit and attract high calibre students through standard video recruitment so were looking to us to create a film that would immediately stand out and capture the attention of their audiences.
After several conversations with the client, it became evident that in order to make a memorable and inspiring film, we needed to create a film that would be completely different to anything that the University had previously produced.
In order to do this we decided that, instead of making a talking head film with students and academics, we would create a film that is surprising, inspirational, humorous and completely unexpected. We wanted it to live beyond the realms of recruitment communication and become a story in it’s own right. We knew that we didn’t want to mention the University in the film, instead, have the University become a part of the dialogue, becoming thought leaders in the field of engineering.
“This is not a film about Leonardo Da Vinci”
Using ‘A Brief History of John Baldessari’ short documentary as inspiration, we knew that the script would be at the heart of the film’s success. To this end, we worked to devise an intellectually stimulating script that had subtle humour to immediately attract our target audience. It was really important for us to create a film that would not only be informative for the audience, but one that they would be entertained by and share. We spent time with some of London’s leading architects and learnt just how passionate they are about their craft, and how engineering affects everything around us. Even the objects you never would have thought to be engineered, like the slippery part of a waterslide.
