We are the Curious

As part of it’s 20th anniversary, the European Commission chose Contra to produce a 1 minute live action cinema advert to promote the Erasmus + programme to young people in Britain.

Our in house creative team developed an approach surrounding curiosity. The film’s title, ‘We Are The Curious’, was designed to work as a motivational call to action. We wanted our viewer to be able to relate to the three characters and aspire to explore a city in Europe as they do. This bold concept – to film with three actors in three different cities across Europe – had to travel from pitch meeting to cinema screen in less than 4 weeks! With some slick planning, late nights and (very) early mornings, the vision was achieved and we hope that the results will inspire the next generation.

Our (very) small crew travelled around Europe with a lightweight cinema camera and vintage lens package for a week. Visiting some of the most iconic locations in each of these cities, we crafted a beautiful and heartfelt short film that feels somewhere between a documentary and commercial video. An authenticity and natural feel creates a film that young travellers can relate to, showing the benefits and feeling of the Erasmus+ program.

The film was shown in cinemas during the Eurovision Song Contest and has gone on to inspire many young people to take part on the volunteering program.
