Sponsored Content series for Reuters Plus and Narok County Government
Back in April 2018, Reuters Plus approached our film team to pitch on a big tender for the creation of a series of short form and medium form films documenting the changing landscape of the Maasai Mara through the lens of the great wildebeest migration, wildlife and human interest stories. The films we created formed part of a wider campaign by Reuters Plus, showcasing the benefits that tourism brings to The Maasai Mara including providing income to local communities so that human animal conflict can be reduced to zero, empowering women to follow their dreams and gain financial independence like never before and conservation efforts to insure the Mara’s unique ecosystem keeps thriving.
After being commissioned on the project, the production team embarked on a two months development period, researching potential contributors and stories, completely immersing ourselves in the culture of the Maasai people and getting a deep understanding of the fragility of its ecosystem. From there, our small and nimble team consisting of a Producer, AP and Self-shooting Director spent less than 2 weeks on location, capturing the most incredible and humbling stories. From meeting the first female guide in the Mara through to going on a helicopter elephant rescue mission with the Mara Elephant Project.
The resulting films are powerful, emotionally charged and even more educational then we could have hoped for. Through the eyes of people and wildlife, we have been able to give audiences a unique insight into this unique location and tell stories that have never been told before.
