4 BRANDED CONTENT FILMS, 3 PASSIONATE CRAFTSMEN, 1 LOCATION.
London based Property Branding Agency, Stepladder, approached Contra after their award winning film The Craft of Sound caught their eye for a campaign they were working on for a property client. Impressed by the beautiful cinematography and passionate storytelling behind Alex Bishop’s film, they decided to commission us on a series of branded content craft films for their campaign entitled “Made for Work”. Their brief was clear: to create a series of films entitled “Southwark Stories,” using local craftsmen to complement their brand and marketing campaign launching and promoting a new office development in Southwark.
Our response to the brief was even clearer; we knew that we wanted create a series of films that were emotionally engaging, truthful and full of passion. We felt that the way to do this would be to make each film focus on an individual in a very specific craft. We would allow them to tell their story, show us their craft and tell us why it is so meaningful to them.
“Gin production is like composing music. You’re continuously trying to improve on it, find the right rhythm and harmony” Darren Rook, Distiller.
From there, our team dedicated time in the development and discovery phase of the project, focusing on researching contributors with most compelling story to tell and those that, through their craft, make the area of Southwark so unique to London’s ever growing trade scene.
Research paid off, as we found three perfect craftsmen; a cheesemaker who brings his experience making cheese in the Swiss Alps to the arches of Bermondsey and Borough Market’s bustling food scene, a distiller who will only source the most fresh and unique ingredients even if that means waiting years to get the right berries from Germany, and a Designer & Maker whose leather handbags encourage its customers to be courageous, just the way he was in setting up his business and pursuing his craft.
Alongside the success of the story films, we also worked with Stepladder to create a Hero film which focused more on the location and what Southwark has to offer. The pace of this piece is a lot faster and punchier and works to evoke the bustling and fast paced nature of the area.
