Unpicked is our new music documentary series which sets out to explore different genres of music by delving into the processes behind the writing, recording or composition of a piece of work. In each video, a genre-leading artist will film a live session of one of their lead tracks, whilst giving an exclusive insight into its making.
Rob’s compositions are created in one take using a cello, simple effects and a loop pedal; all manipulated using expression pedals. Loops are kept dynamic by changing the playback direction of the recorded material whilst adding new textures using unique sounds on the cello. Each composition is written with the idea of mixing it completely live, and as a result no track ever sounds the same twice.
The resulting sound crosses the boundaries of contemporary classical and experimental electronic.
With a long running passion for music and storytelling, Contra have been inspired by Rob Lewis’ unique journey as an Artist. Having worked across other films for BBC Music, BBC Worldwide and Red Bull where music has been at the heart of the content, we’ve really enjoyed expanding our portfolio of films in this area. We’re excited to release our second episode of Unpicked in early 2019.
“Unpicked” is a collaboration between Artist Manager Barbara Thornton and Contra Agency, a film production company in London.
